What It Measures
SchoolVaxView reports the percentage of kindergartners who have received required vaccinations, including MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), by state and school year.
How It Works
States report vaccination coverage data from school entry immunization requirements. CDC compiles and standardizes this data annually.
What It Tells You
MMR coverage rates indicate how protected a community is against measles outbreaks. The widely cited threshold for measles herd immunity is approximately 95% coverage. States below this threshold may be more vulnerable to outbreaks.
Limitations
- Data is reported annually, so it may not reflect current-year vaccination rates.
- Coverage rates are for kindergartners only and may not represent the broader population.
- Exemption policies vary by state, affecting comparability.
- Some states report more granularly (county, school district) than others.
